MVRDV’s Crystal House
MVRDV Architects have used pioneering glass brick technology replacing the existing brickwork to captivate the stunning façade, recreating the city’s traditional architectural style into a crystal house for the Chanel boutique flagship in Amsterdam.
This innovative façade is a first of its kind. The glass bricks are bonded with a transparent glue, which, according to MVRDV, is ‘stronger than concrete’. Towards the upper levels, the glass bricks gradually merge with the original brickwork to create a seamless transition up through the façade.
